South Hill Park Arts Centre, Bracknell invited members of the Reading Guild of Artists to present new work in response to the concept 'a sense of space'; the artwork is brought together by this common theme.

The exhibition "Sense of Space", Apr – May 2022, meandered around the various galleries of the building and encouraged the viewer to look, to see, to connect in a deeper way with their own memories, experiences and feelings inspired by the world about them.

For my own response, when first visiting the buildings of South Hill Park they instantly and overwhelmingly felt familiar – these works represent the memories sparked by our senses and of the spaces that remain with us. I have combined impressions of South Hill Park with the feelings and memories of the place I grew up as a young child. Of modern concrete grafted onto the old brick and plaster. Chopped up, dissected, warrens and long corridors. Changing levels, twists and turns. Light wood, old dark wood, stone, smooth painted walls, steel, glass. The lurking public building warning signs, fire doors ever ready. Otis lifts. Cosy and familiar, comforting. Fearful, scary, small, endlessness. My four-year-old self makes an appearance.
